How to Use Kakao Maps in English

Kakao Maps and almost all of the apps in the Kakao family now can be switched to support the English language. However, they all still default to Korean. In this video, I will show you how to change the app into English and also use the navigation feature. Take a look at how to change it to English in the video below:

Kakao Maps and even Naver Maps are so much more useful in Korea than google maps. Almost the entire country of Korea uses a kakao app of some sort. Thus, they are familiar with the interface and being that the app is Korean, the addresses will also appear more naturally than google maps. Kakao recently acquired Daum’s web-based map as well (click here for the link). It is not yet in English but it is equally useful for finding places and information.

Kakao Maps also is an excellent navigation tool that gives a multitude of information from your typical car navigation functions to bus, bike and walking navigation. This makes it an incredibly important app for getting around Korea. It also has subway maps and quick shortcuts to Kakao Taxi as well.

With so much information, you should never have to use google maps until you leave Korea. The reason being is that you just can’t beat the accuracy and updates from these apps. This also goes for navigation. Too often, I see foreigners purchasing silly out-of-date navigation units. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! You’d be better off spending it on a phone-holder for your car and use Kakao maps.

With that being said, please watch the video to get you up to speed on how to switch Kakao Maps over to English.
