North Korea wants Reunification with South

Of course they do. I believe most South Koreans do, too. But they both have different ideas of how that reunification will occur.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) said on Saturday that they will achieve reunification.

The army and people of the DPRK will never pardon the South Korean authorities, who drove the north-south relations into an uncontrollable situation, said Kim Ki Nam, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee.

The DPRK will “launch a nationwide all-out offensive to put an end to South Korea’s anti-DPRK confrontation moves and achieve the historic cause of national reunification without fail,” he added.

That’s nice. As Billy Crystal once said in one of my favorite movies of all time, “Have fun storming the castle, boys”

Meanwhile, overly jumpy Republic of Korea (ROK) Marines have caused travellors to be a bit jumpy these days, too. Last week they mistook a passenger airliner for a North Korean plane and fired shots at it. Having endured the sinking of the Cheonan and the shelling of an island in the past year of so, the South Korean military is ready for any provocation the north might throw their way.  Statements like the DPRK made on Saturday don’t help.
