Everything You Need to Know About Ulsan

Shocking rape case in Ulsan…

This isn’t a story for the faint of heart, it makes me sick to even read it. But, with the building media storm in Korea about rape (especially the rape of children) this story making it into the press is important. Also, for all the people who teach Elementary, it’s a reminder that though Korea seems like a safe country, it is our job, as educators, to help protect the children.

Once, a few years ago, I was having a discussion about animal rights with an advanced adult class. I was pretty surprised at the lack of animal protection laws, and it was pretty obvious that I was shocked. One of the students (it’s always funny when your students are older, richer and more powerful than you, but call you sir…) simply replied “Just give us time. 20 years ago, Korea had no Human rights, only now have we gotten them. Give us more time”.

I think this is an example. When Koreans  focus on an issue, be it something odd and useless like US beef, or something awful like child rape, they pursue it like a religious cause. Horrible cases like this happen all the time, but now that the media and the people are focusing on the problem things can only change for the better. Just give Korea some time…
