Everything You Need to Know About Ulsan

The 2013 Ulsan Burn’s Night Charity Ball

On the evening of January 26th 2013 The Ulsan St. Andrew’s Society held their annual Burn’s Night Charity ball to help local charities in Ulsan. The event was a smashing success raising an astounding 60,000,000 won all of which will go directly to local charities like the Ulsan Parent’s Group of Child Cancers (UPGCC), The Ulsan Big Light Church (helping those in need in Ulsan), and the Ulsan Orphanage.

Traditional music from the children who will directly benefit from the event

Since 2012, I have had the pleasure of photographing the event and watching the society members put together one of the most successful charity events in Ulsan, if not the country. This year’s event proved to be even better than their previous and inaugural event in 2012.

The British Ambassador to Korea and his wife along with the Senior Vice President and Vice President of Hyundai Heavy Industries

This year’s event brought in not only executives from many of the numerous companies working with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), but even the Senior Vice President and Vice President of HHI, J.C. Bae and H.D. Shin. The event reached even as far as Seoul as his Excellency the British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea attended the event as well.

The Burns Night Charity Ball centers on Scotland’s famous poet Robert Burns and features the traditional music and flavor of Scotland. Every single aspect of the event was executed superbly. The Ór Ceilidh Band was flown in from Scotland, Scottish Whisky was imported, the haggis was piped in by an authentic Scottish piper, and everything went to make an unforgettable evening.

Traditional Scottish music and dance is always a highlight of the night

While the event’s success is based largely on the contributions of the guests and sponsors, this whole event would not have happened without the hard work of the Committee of the Ulsan St. Andrew’s Society, namely Ian Allan, Vincent Carvalho, Geoff Donnison, Robert Lee Ferrie, Chris Greenwood, Sam Johnson, Amit Mishra, James Rainey, and Craig Russell.
