The Ulsan Metropolitan Library

Posted by on Apr 28, 2018 in | Comments Off on The Ulsan Metropolitan Library

April 2018 The Ulsan Metropolitan Library recently opened it’s doors near Samsandong. This modern library is a great addition to Ulsan and an extremely functional space for the public. What makes this library great is the fact that they made great use of the space making something that is enjoyable for all ages with modern up-to-date features. Getting a Library Card In order to take books home, you will need a library card. You can use any computer in the library to register or online here (Korean language Only). Once you have registered, you can then take your Alien Registration Card to the information desk and they will issue you your card. If you have a card already from any other library in the city, you can use it at the Ulsan Metropolitan Library. Sadly, the registration uses either your phone or i-Pin registration, so if you are having trouble, please talk to the helpful staff and they will get you sorted out. You also don’t need a library card to enjoy the services there. From what I saw, you can read and use the space without having a library card.   Outside the Library One of the great things about this place is that they took notice of the grounds and created useable spaces...

Not to mention, the Korean floor heating system or “ondol” can also be a bit confusing. Hopefully this guide can help you stay warm this year and keep your bills in check. Mastering the Ondol One of the hardest things to master in Korea beyond the language is the heating system. When I first...

A lot has changed in the time that I have been here. One of the biggest changes (and a welcomed one) is the recent ease that one can order items off the internet and have them shipped right to your door. While Korea is arguably lightyears ahead of many places with regards to domestic online shopping and their amazing taek-bae delivery system, as foreigners we often suffer when trying to order items from home. In recent years, things have...

Ulsan: Then and Now

Posted by on Jun 30, 2017 in | Comments Off on Ulsan: Then and Now

It was almost this time way back in 2003, when I stepped off the plane and met the recruiters who brought me to my first hogwan. It was located in Samsandong and although it has changed names a few times the school is still there. Looking back, it was an interesting time because I was a new teacher and  living in an area that was not the most cosmopolitan of places at that moment. Ulsan was still primarily a...

It cost a lot of money and took a long time to find the right people to fix the site. What Exactly Happened? To the best of my knowledge it was a perfect storm of events that caused the downfall of...
