That fat is Phat!

According to a new study, Ulsan’s DongGu (the eastern district) tops the list as the nation’s fattest area. Though the article goes on to focus on farmers in Gangwondo, it does make me think. Ulsan has been undergoing a huge change in parks in the last few years. There have been massive additions to Munsu, Ulsan Grand Park, Dongcheon, the Taehwa river park, and the new Bamboo Forest Park. Oh, lest I forget the entirely new Seonam Dam Park.
Yet all of these parks are in Namgu or JungGu. Bangeojin has Ulgi and Dawangam, which haven’t seen any work in the 8 years I have been here. In fact, what is there to do in DongGu for recreation, besides the skating rink and drinking on the beach?
Ironically, it is in DongGu that most of the city’s income comes from, 2 of the world’s top 5 ship builders are sitting there, and yet the best park is an hours drive away on a Saturday afternoon.
Let’s hope that the park building boom soon stretches to the East…
or maybe it’s just because DongGu is the closest part of the city to America?
