Preparing for a Typhoon in Korea

Posted by on Sep 5, 2020 in | Comments Off on Preparing for a Typhoon in Korea

Every year at the end of the summer, there is an uncomfortable time where typhoons are common. Usually this period is around late August to early September and sometimes we even get a few in October! That being said, it is a good idea to prepare for this time and make sure that you are safe from the typhoon. You are going to find a lot of varying opinions if you are solely sourcing your information from internet memes found on expat facebook groups. They typically range from “we’re doomed! How can we survive!!???” to the macho pablum of “Been here 1.5 years… I’ve seen it all. They’re nothing. I just go to the ocean and flex my muscles at them” and so on. The truth of the matter is that typhoons are unpredictable and a bit preparation can save you a lot of headaches in the long run. For an idea of the chaos that these weather systems cause here are some shots of a recent typhoon to hit the Ulsan and Busan area. How to Get LASIK in Korea

Posted by on May 10, 2020 in | Comments Off on How to Get LASIK in Korea

Many of us wish to correct myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia and finally get rid of our glasses or contact lenses while we are living in Korea.  However, the process may be daunting at first. Getting any kind of surgery in a foreign country can be frightening.  However, at BGN Eye Hospital they have detailed the exact procedure to help you understand the process and feel more comfortable when you come for a visit.  Step 1 Examination and consultation The first step for all patients that come in for LASIK is an examination and consultation. BGN Eye Hospital currently offers a free LASIK consultation for everyone who would like to check if they are candidates for Laser Vision Correction. To book an appointment we will require your full name ( like in ARC card), date of birth and contact number. If you use contact lenses you should stop using them at least 4 days before visiting the hospital for soft lenses and  2 weeks for hard or toric lenses. Examination and consultation for Laser Vision Correction lasts for around an hour and a half. We will check all your eye structures, including cornea condition. During the examination, pupil dilation medication (mydriatics) may be used to check your retina if needed. So we highly recommend using...

Part of living in Korea is actually learning Korean. It’s sound silly to say this but if you talk to a lot of foreigners here, many of us have only a basic grasp of the language despite (in some cases) many years of living in Korea. The problem is largely due to the lack of actual classes. Which is ironic because many of the foreigners are here to teach in language academies. At any rate, there are resources available...

Posted by on Feb 10, 2019 in | Comments Off on Korail Talk: An Essential App for Traveling in Korea

For many years people have relied on this site for a lot of their travel information. Bus and train times in particular, continue to be a top search term despite being kind of outdated.
